Our play and learning focused on sensory activities around Rosh Hashanah, apples and pomegranates in particular. The children covered and uncovered the fruit in ice. The fruit was then placed on the tables for the children to cut using plastic knives. As they deseeded the pomegranates, they manipulated their pincer grasp, worked on fine motor skills as well as self-help and adaptive skills.
Our late morning was spent in the sandbox and the classroom. Children shared buckets and shovels to develope their social and emotional skills as well as easing their transitions in the beggining of the year. The best part was cooling off in the cold sandbox shower!!
